It seems like Pittsburgh has been #1 on all the Top Ten lists recently. Of course, we’re not complaining. But why are all of these pop culture sites and established publications praising Pittsburgh right now?
One reason could be its drastic shift from Steel City to Tech City, as leaders in innovation have taken over Pittsburgh’s industrial warehouses to connect past and future together. Another reason could be the diverse culture mixing together to form such a great city. But let’s see what others are saying about Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh’s Food Scene is Growing
Pittsburgh locals have a taste for everything, and while Primanti Bros. remains the quintessential Pittsburgh restaurant, compilations like Zagat’s Top 17 Food Cities of 2015 and NerdWallet’s Best Cities for Foodies recognize plenty of other truly local places to eat, including:
- Cure — Offers Mediterranean favorites
- Morcilla — Focuses on traditional Spanish cuisine
- Pierogies Plus — Serves traditional Polish pierogies and more
- Vandal — Serves breakfast and lunch in a minimalist setting
A Comeback from Steel City to Tech City
As we wrote about in a previous blog post, more and more tech companies and research facilities are seeking Pittsburgh as a top location. Apple, Google, Oculus, and now Uber are all bringing offices — and new employment opportunities — to the Steel City.
Pittsburgh’s new identity and comeback from the steel industry collapse inspired this Time magazine story and this Politico Magazine story. They are definitely worth a read.
Pittsburgh: The Best Place to Live
Every city has its share of tourist attractions, and while Pittsburgh visitors know about the Duquesne Incline, impressive views from Mt. Washington, and major sports stadiums in Downtown Pittsburgh, residents know that there is much more to discover.
Pittsburgh has recently topped Best Places to Live lists for its:
- rich arts and culture — Forbes (2010)
- startup tech companies — Huffington Post (2016)
- excellent universities — WalletHub (2015) and Money (2015)
- historic preservation — Metropolis (2015)
- affordability — The Simple Dollar (2014), Forbes (2014), and Demographia (2016)
