Forbes has named our area a top 25 place to retire, WalletHub lists it as a top 25 college town, and now Growella ranks it among the top 25 cities for Millennials. Pittsburgh just continues to rake in the awesome rankings!
Why Pittsburgh Is the City for Millennials
Pittsburgh secured a #2 spot on Growella’s list of the top-ranked cities for Millennials, mainly because of our area’s lower cost of living and convenient commute to work. We can think of several other reasons why Pittsburgh tops the charts: a delicious food scene, a thriving tech industry, and rich arts and culture are just a few! But let’s break down why Pittsburgh is a top destination for Millennials.
The Job Market Is Strong
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Pittsburgh is emerging as a tech city alongside boom towns like Austin, TX; Nashville, TN; and Raleigh, NC (all three of which made Growella’s list, too).
High-tech companies like Google, Apple, and Microsoft have offices in the city, and major corporations like Dick’s Sporting Goods, Consol Energy, PNC, and PPG Industries are headquartered in the Greater Pittsburgh area.
You Can Ditch Your Car
Alternative transportation is big in Pittsburgh. In fact, many residents take public transit, ride bikes, or walk to the office on a daily basis. The City of Pittsburgh is investing more and more into bike lanes and pedestrian-friendly streets, and companies like PGH Bike Share are making it easy for residents to get around without a car.
Housing Is More Affordable
You don’t have to break the bank to find a great place to live. Pittsburgh is widely known for its affordability, and that’s certainly true when it comes to real estate. These condominium buildings and townhouse developments all offer affordable living in convenient locations:
- Chatham Tower Condominiums in Downtown Pittsburgh
- King’s School Village and Berrington Woods in Bethel Park
- Quail Run in Peters Township
- Hunting Ridge in South Fayette
- Highlands of Carnegie in Carnegie
